Mama Africa

Mama Africa

July, 2010 | No Comments

Most striking to me in my travels in Africa is that each country we visited over the shows we produced “Cooked” and “Getaway to Africa” was that in each country we experienced something special and different. Whether a perfect silence experienced in a village in Lesotho at nightfall, the rolling hills of the Kingdom of Swaziland, the idyllic beaches and Portuguese perri perri chicken of Mozambique, the most incredible fresh water diving in Malawi. The warm welcome at a village in Zambia,  Musi O Tunya (the smoke that thunders) the awe inspiring Victoria Falls Zimbabwe, Botswana where every bird animal and tree seems to have a giant, ancient quality and Namibia the wide, open spaces and big skies speckled with the brightest stars you will ever see! On returning to South Africa, I can honestly say that all of these countries have one thing in common. I never felt unsafe or away from home I was greeted by the warmest smiles and true generosity. We shared food in villages navigated down crocodile infested rivers with the help of brave locals and on occasion felt like we never wanted to leave. If Africa truly is the cradle of humankind, then perhaps it is where we all eventually return, even if just for a short visit to reconnect. My wish for every person who has not yet experienced this great continent, make the time to get out there. Dream, explore and perhaps learn to understand Mama Africa.

Safe Travels,
Darren Putter
