When I saw the movie “Out Of Africa” I fell in love with its people, its passion its tapestry of traditions.
Karen Blixen wrote: “ If I know a song of Africa, of the giraffe and the African new moon lying on her back, of the plows in the fields and the sweaty faces of the coffee pickers, does Africa know a song of me? Will the air over the plain quiver with a color that I have had on, or the children invent a game in which my name is, or the full moon throw a shadow over the gravel of the drive that was like me, or will the eagles of the Ngong Hills look out for me?”
Being a teacher for many years I love children. They are the most wonderful beings of imagination of love of joy. Already laughing again with the dust mark of earlier forgotten tears over their cheeks.
When I travelled through India with my niece, Jei a cinematographer a whole new world opened up, telling stories of life through the lens of a camera.
Life is most precious and it is our duty to share, share the lessons we have learnt, share our knowledge and expertise. Learn the song of Africa, ploughing the fields, colour the air looking out for one another. And maybe one day Africa will know a song of me…
